Books

While browsing the bright & colourful world of the internet this afternoon for some well needed inspiration (before I head off to work tonight, that is) I found this cute stop-motion animation on Youtube that caught my attention.
I simply ADORE all the little details that have been carefully placed in, it must have taken some amount of work!

I don't think there is anything quite like reading a old book.
That smell.
It smells dusty and the particles irritate your nostrils like you're on the verge of sneezing, but also it smells loved.

I'd love book shelf covered in old, preloved books. Books full of all sorts of stories - happy, sad, romantic, tragic. Books abundant with poetry!

"Books are the windows through
which the soul looks out"

Henry Ward Beecher

I think people these days under-estimate the power of poetry, and beautiful words are simply overlooked.

I found an old poetry book belonging to my late Grandmother. I think she once told me she had it in the war. One of the poems I love is this one. It's so romantic, I wish men would still pour out their hearts!

THE TRUE BEAUTY

He that loves a rosy cheek
Or a coral lip admires,
Or from star-like eyes doth seek,
Fuel to maintain his fires;
As old Time makes these decay,
So his flames must waste away.

But a smooth and steadfast mind,
Gentle thoughts, and calm desires,
Hearts with equal love combined,
Kindle never-dying fires :-
Where these are not, I despise
Lovely cheeks or lips or eyes.

T. Carew

So, I leave you with those words & hope you are inspired to pick up and book and read, for a book will never leave you, never betray you and always be with you.

Love,

Allison - La Belle Plume xoxo

  3. That animation was incredible! I can't imagine how long it must have taken them, but it was definitely worth it.
